Changing Times

So, it is amazing how much social media has affected Public Relations practices in these past few years. I can't believe all of the advances that have happened in only a short time. Twitter, FourSquare and a ton of other Social Media sites seem to have just sprung into being. What is the coolest part though is that all of these sites are about forging relationships. Twitter is used to follow friends and see what they're thinking or doing. Facebook helps you keep in touch. FourSquare allows you to be a creeper and see every move your friends make. What I love most is how social media has affected PR. Public Relations has always been about getting in touch with people. As PR practicioners we seek to have relationships with our target publics, and social media is a great way to keep in touch! Brian Solis puts it greatly when he says, " was also an opportunity for those who didn't buy into this process of PR, to find a new channel to connect with people and get back to the basixs, which was all about cultivating relationships.' PR has and always will be about relationships." It is convenient for people to use technology. It is fun for people to use technology.  People have now gained back the voice that they once lost. We directly get to contact those who love our brands or hate them. Social media provides with so many great opportunities to contact all of those in the great open market that is the internet!
